Best of Basketball No. 9: Temple upsets #10 Kansas

Over the next two weeks we will be counting down the top 10 moments from the 2014-15 basketball seasons. Each day we will be bringing you one moment from either the men or women that stood out to us this season.

#9: Temple shocks #10 Kansas

Temple headed to the Wells Fargo Center Dec. 22 to host No. 10/10 Kansas. With only one loss on the season to No. 1 Kentucky, Kansas was the clear favorite, but the Owls didn't listen to the critics.

Temple struck early, holding the Jayhawks to just 1-of-8 from the field to start the game as the Owls jumped out to a 12-2 advantage. When it was all said and done, Temple walked away with a convincing 77-52 win over Kansas. Senior guard Will Cummings led the Owls with 19 points, hitting 7-of-7 free throws while junior guard Quenton DeCosey added 18 points and senior guard Jesse Morgan chipped in 17 and hit three from behind the arc.

The decisive victory marked a win over a ranked team for an eighth consecutive year, while the victory was head coach Fran Dunphy's sixth over a top-10 team. The win over Kansas proved to be a spark for Temple, who ended the season 26-11 with a run in the NIT making it all the way to the semifinals. The 17-win improvement from the 2013-14 campaign was the best in the nation.
