The American Today - Tulane Tallies Another Shutout

Tulane recorded its league-leading seventh shutout of the year, while East Carolina won on the road and USF and Memphis split a doubleheader Friday in The American.
 
Three Tulane pitchers combined to shut out No. 19/19 UCF 3-0 in New Orleans. RHP Corey Merrill went 5.2 innings for the win, while RHPs Patrick Duester and Ian Gibaut chipped in for the victory. 1B Tyler Wilson had two of the five hits for Tulane, which improved to 23-14 and 4-6 in The American. RF Erik Barber and C Jordan Savinon each had two hits for UCF, which fell to 25-14 and 4-6 in conference play.
 
East Carolina scored four runs in the first en route to a 7-3 win over UConn in Storrs. DH Luke Lowery had three hits and two runs scored for the Pirates, who improved to 23-15 and 5-5 in The American. DH Joe Deroche-Duffin drove in a pair of runs for the Huskies, who dropped to 24-14 and 5-5 in conference play.
 
RHP Jimmy Herget tossed 7.1 innings of one-run ball as USF downed Memphis 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader. The Tigers responded in the second game with a complete-game five-hitter from RHP Dylan Toscano, who held Memphis to one unearned run and struck out seven in a 4-1 Tigers win. Following the doubleheader, USF stands at 26-13-1 and 8-3 in The American, while Memphis moves to 24-12 and 6-5 in league action.
 
Cincinnati was rained out at Houston. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday.
