ROUND ONE RESULTS
PALM COAST, Fla. – Led by two players that shot par or better, UCF took a one-stroke lead after the first round of the 2015 American Women’s Golf Championship at Hammock Beach Resort & Golf Club Sunday afternoon in Palm Coast, Fla.
Senior Monifa Sealy (-2, 70) and freshman Laura Sojo (E, 72) paced the No. 23 Knights after the first 18 holes of play. UCF finished 3-over-par (291) has a one-stroke lead over second-place East Carolina (+4, 292) following day one action. Third place USF recorded a 6-over par 294 while No. 24 Tulane charted an eight-over-par 296 for fourth. No. 48 Houston is in fifth place at 297 (+9).
USF’s Ashley Burke is the individual leader at five-under-par. The sophomore’s round of 67 is the lowest 18-hole total in American women’s golf championship history. Defending individual champion Jenny Haglund (SMU) and Ashley Kees (Memphis) held the previous lowest round mark with a 71 in 2014.
Sealy and Alexandra Rossi (SMU) are tied for second overall at 70 (-2). East Carolina’s Lane Gakeler, Memphis’ Michaela Fletcher and Tulane’s Gemma Dryburgh are each tied for fourth with one-under-par 71 scores.
