PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly baseball honors for the week ending April 19.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Chris Carrier • So. • OF • Memphis
Carrier hit .333 (6-for-18) with one home run, five runs batted in and three runs scored in the Tigers’ 3-2 week that included a series win against first-place USF. The Memphis native drove in two runs in the Tigers’ 4-1 win over the Bulls Friday in the second game of a doubleheader and reached base in all five games this week. Sunday, Carrier started a sixth inning rally with a walk and stolen base before coming around to score the first of three runs in the frame in a 6-4 Memphis win that gave the Tigers a series win and pulled them within one game of the first-place Bulls. For the year, Carrier is hitting .254 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in. The award is the second for Carrier in the last three weeks.

Kyle Dowdy • Jr. • RHP • Houston
Dowdy struck out 13 and faced one batter over the minimum in a two-hit shutout against Cincinnati in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The San Diego native had a fifth-inning leadoff double erased on a double play and stranded a one-out single in the seventh. The series sweep of the Bearcats moved Houston within one game of first-place USF. For the year, Dowdy is 5-1 with a 2.83 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP.
