Houston 4, UConn 3
Houston swept its three-game series over UConn with a 4-3 walk-off win at Cougar Softball Stadium Sunday afternoon. The game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh before Houston's Courtney Klingler plated an RBI double to secure the win for the Huskies. Klingler went 4-4 at the plate with the walk-off double and three RBIs. Houston improved to 22-23 and 7-4 in league play with the win while UConn fell to 15-27 and 3-8 in The American with the loss. Houston will travel to Tulsa over the weekend to face the Hurricane in a three-game series. The conference rivals will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. CT, with the first game being televised by ESPNU. UConn will host Boston College in a non-conference game on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET in Storrs, Conn.
East Carolina 7, USF 3
The East Carolina-USF series concluded with a 7-3 victory by the Pirates on Sunday in Tampa, Fla. With the win, East Carolina improved to 13-35 overall and 5-10 in conference play while the Bulls fell to 33-15 and 4-6 in The American. After three and a half scoreless innings, USF put up their first run in the bottom of the fourth. With the bases loaded Kristen Wyckoff’s hit drew an error from the Pirates’ third baseman, scoring Lauren Evans and giving USF a 1-0 lead. East Carolina responded with five hits in the fifth inning. They plated two runs when sophomore right fielder Kacie Oshiro cleared the bases with a triple to give the Pirates the go-ahead run and a 2-1 lead. East Carolina hosts North Carolina at ECU Softball Stadium on Thursday in a non-conference tilt while USF plays host Memphis at the USF Softball Stadium over the weekend. The three-game league series will open with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. ET.
Tulsa 3, RV/RV Kansas 2
Tulsa earned a 3-2 non-conference victory over the RV/RV Kansas Jayhawks Sunday afternoon at the Collins Family Softball Complex. The Jayhawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Tulsa responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Senior Erica Sampson, who went 2-3 at the plate, had a leadoff single and junior Catherine Horner gave the Hurricane a 2-1 lead with a homerun, her second of the season. In the second inning Jodi Edmiston had a solo homerun, her second of the year, to give Tulsa a 3-1 advantage. The Jayhawks scored a second run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Hurricane was able to hold them scoreless for the final three innings, claiming a 3-2 win. Tulsa improved to 29-15 overall, while Kansas fell to 33-8. The Hurricane returns to conference play over the weekend, hosting Houston for a three-game series at Collins Family Softball Complex.
