PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Student-athletes from UCF, UConn, Houston and Tulane are the winners of the American Athletic Conference awards in outdoor track and field for the week ending April 19.
Houston’s Isaac Williams is Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for his hurdles performance at the Mt. SAC Relays. The junior from Willingboro, New Jersey, recorded the nation’s top time in the 110-meter hurdles (13.56) while running on a 4x100 relay team that ranks 16
th in the West (40.10). The award is the second of the outdoor season for Williams, who also earned the honor March 31.
Tulane’s Devon Breaux is Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after his outing in the long jump at LSU. Breaux’s leap of 24-11/7.59m is the best in The American and ranks 10
th in the East. The junior from Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was also named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week April 7.
UCF’s J’Nea Bellamy is Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Mt. SAC Relays. The sophomore from Miami posted the top time in The American and a top-10 time in the East in the 200 (23.39) while also running the 100 in 11.48 and being part of a 4x100 relay team that finished in 44.69.
UConn’s Sarah Bowens is Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for her efforts in the long jump at the Larry Ellis Invitational. The junior from Hillburn, New York, recorded the best conference mark of the year (20-7.75/6.29m) in the event, with the mark good for 11
th in the East.
Weekend Recap
- At the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday UCF’s Devinn Cartwright recorded a personal best in the women’s 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.74, which is best in the conference.
- The UConn men picked up 19 top-10 finishes and the women’s squad earned 15 top-10 finishes between the Larry Ellis Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays. Chinedu Amonu won the men’s 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 47.75. UConn’s 4x100-meter relay team of Deysha Smith-Jenkins, Nyanka Joseph, Taylor Anderson, and Sarah Bowens won the event for the women, finishing 1.18 seconds faster than the next team (45.58).
- Sophomore Leah Lott won the women’s long jump (5.96m) at the Virginia Challenge, recording a personal best while moving into ninth all-time at East Carolina.
- Isaac Williams, along with LeShon Collins, James Arnett and Curtis Brown ran a 40.10 in the 4x100-meter relay at the Mt. SAC Relays. The Cougars’ 4x100-meter relay team now holds the best time in The American for the event, as well as the 19
th best time in the NCAA. Sophomore distance runner Brian Barraza set his third school record on Friday, running the men’s 5,000-meter in 13:56.76 while placing fifth in the event.
- The Memphis Track and Field teams had a solid performance at the Auburn War Eagle Invitational over the weekend. Maya Williamson took first place in the women’s 800-meter (2:06.86) while teammate Martina Rodriguez-Sala finished second (2:07.65). In the field, Chardae Greenlee won the women’s triple jump (12.61m) and Martine Bye set a new school record in the women’s javelin throw (46.15m). For the men, Luis Hanssler finished the long jump in first place (7.12m) as fellow Tiger Marc Klaschka took second (6.98m). On the track the men’s 4x400-meter relay team took first with a time of 3:18.03, and Alex Klatt won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.53.
- USF senior Brittany London finished fourth in the women’s pole vault at the Virginia Challenge, recording a jump of 3.67m.
- Isabella Martin had SMU’s best finish of the weekend, placing second in the women’s triple jump (12.79m).

Jenna Dubrow set new school records in the 800m and 5,000m run, with times of 2:08.15 and 16:58.84 respectively.
- Tulane’s Lilla McMillan took third in the 400-meter dash (53.05) on Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold.
- Tulsa finished the weekend with a total of two first-place finishes and 12 top-10 finishes between the Michael Johnson Classic and Mt. SAC Relays. Elijah Silva took first in the men’s 1,500-meter run (3:47.07), while Austin Del Rosso won the men’s 5,000-meter run (14:59.12).
