The American Today - USF, East Carolina Walk Off in Extra Innings

USF and East Carolina tallied walk-off wins in extra innings, while Tulane and UConn were also winners Friday night in The American.
 
1B Buddy Putnam’s 11th-inning walk-off single gave USF a 2-1 win over No. 25 Houston. RHP Jimmy Herget struck out 11 and allowed one unearned run over nine innings, while RHP Tommy Peterson got his fourth win of the year with two scoreless frames of relief, as the Bulls improved to 28-14-1 and 9-4 in conference play. RHP Andrew Lantrip struck out a career-high 13 over 8.1 innings for Houston, which fell to 27-15 and 7-6 in The American.
 
East Carolina walked off with a win for the third consecutive game with a 6-5 victory in 10 innings over UCF. RF Eric Tyler - who scored the winning run Tuesday - drove home the game-winner Friday for the Pirates, who improved to 27-16 and 7-6 in The American. 1B James Vasquez hit a game-tying homer in the top of the ninth for the Knights, who fell to 26-17 and 5-8 in conference play.
 
RHPs Corey Merrill and Ian Gibaut combined on a four-hit shutout in Tulane’s 4-0 win over Cincinnati. The shutout - the Green Wave’s ninth of the season - lifted Tulane to 25-16 and 6-7 in The American. RHP Ryan Atkinson struck out nine for the Bearcats, who dropped to 13-28 and 4-9 in league action.
 
RHP Carson Cross dealt seven innings of one-run ball in UConn’s 10-1 win over Memphis. DH Joe DeRoche-Duffin drove in five runs for the Huskies, who improved to 28-15 and 7-6 in The American. 3B Zach Schritenthal hit his first career home run for the Tigers, who fell to 27-13 and 7-6 in conference play.
