Best of Basketball No. 1: UConn Wins 10th National Championship

Last week we counted down some of our top moments from the 2014-15 basketball seasons. We have worked our way down from 10 to six and this week we will finish our list. Each day we will be bringing you one moment from either the men or women that stood out to us this season.

#1: UConn Wins 10th National Championship

We have gone through nine great moments from the 2014-15 basketball season and have now arrived at No. 1. It’s tough to argue that the top moment of the season and one of the top moments of the entire year belongs to Geno Auriemma and the UConn Huskies, who won their 10th national championship earlier this month.

Top-seeded UConn faced a familiar foe in the championship game when the Huskies took on Notre Dame with the trophy on the line. It also marked the 55th meeting between the top two teams in the AP poll.

Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Moriah Jefferson each scored 15 points to lead the Huskies to a 63-53 victory over the Fighting Irish. It was UConn's third straight title, while Auriemma joined John Wooden and Phil Jackson as the only coaches in major college or professional sports to win 10 titles. Even more remarkable is that the Huskies are a perfect 10-0 in the title game.

Breanna Stewart added her dominance to the game as she was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player for the third time, making her the first woman ever to achieve that feat. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the only men's player to do it when he played for Wooden's Bruins.
