Stacy Martin Named Chief Financial Officer at American Athletic Conference

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced the hiring of Stacy Martin as Chief Financial Officer of the American Athletic Conference, effective May 18, 2015.

Martin is an accomplished administrator in intercollegiate athletics with extensive experience in business operations, fiscal analysis and planning, and budget management at major institutions. Most recently Martin was Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance and Administration at the University of Memphis, one of the 11 member schools of The American. Martin joined Memphis in 2012 and worked closely with the Conference office through its rebranding process prior to the 2013-14 academic year.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Stacy to our Conference as our new Chief Financial Officer,” said Aresco. “She brings outstanding personal qualities and a wealth of valuable experience to this important role. Our Conference is familiar with her skills and accomplishments as a member of our Conference’s Athletic Directors Finance Committee and as the CFO and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Memphis, where she has compiled a distinguished record. Her strong financial, business and administrative background will serve our membership extraordinarily well as we continue to build a record of success.”

Martin’s diverse experience at Memphis includes managing the comprehensive athletics department budget, creating a new 501(c)(3) corporation, completing over $70 million in bond issuances with state authorities, dealing with financial compliance issues, annual departmental financial planning, and analysis and price optimization for all game-day inventory. She has also served as Memphis’ Senior Woman Administrator, and supervised women’s basketball, travel, licensing, events and facilities, capital projects, and human resources.

Before joining the staff at Memphis, Martin served as Assistant Athletic Director for Business at Kansas State, and prior to that, she served for eight years at her alma mater, San Jose State University, as Senior Associate Athletic Director and COO.  She is a recent Past-President and five-year Executive Committee member of the Collegiate Athletic Business Management Association, was named 2009 West Region Administrator of the Year by the region’s women’s gymnastics coaches, has partnered with the NCAA on the development of a Global Business Travel Association workshop for athletic business officers, and was the tournament manager of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball South Regional.

Martin holds an undergraduate degree, cum laude, in business administration, with a concentration in corporate financial management, and an MBA in finance, both from San Jose State University. Additionally, she serves as a member of the Global Business Travel Association Sports Committee and has participated in the Sports Management Institute’s Executive Education Program.
