Knights Open NCAA Tournament Play Against South Carolina

UCF, the automatic qualifier from The American, will open NCAA Championship play on Friday vs. South Carolina in the Tallahassee Regional hosted by No. 9 Florida State. The announcement was made Sunday per the NCAA Division I Softball Committee.

Additional schedule information for regional play will be released on Monday.

Thirty-two conferences were awarded an automatic qualification, while the remaining 32 slots were filled with at-large selections to complete the bracket. The top 16 teams were seeded nationally and will play at campus sites this weekend.

Team pairings were determined by geographic proximity, with the exception that teams from the same conference were not paired during regional competition.

Regional play begins May 14-17, followed by the Super Regionals on May 21-24. The Women's College World Series is May 28-June 4 in Oklahoma City, Okla. at ASA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium. Select Regional, all Super Regional sites and all 15-17 games of this year's WCWS games will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks.
