Houston, USF Win Opening Games of NCAA Regionals

Houston and USF were winners in their opening games of the 2015 NCAA Baseball Championship, while East Carolina and Tulane will face elimination games Saturday afternoon.
 
No. 13/15 Houston used a six-run third inning to get past Houston Baptist 6-4 at Cougar Field. LF Corey Julks hit a three-run homer in the frame for the Cougars, who improved to 43-18. Houston will face Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
 
SS Kyle Teaf and 2B Kevin Merrell combined to drive in four runs out of the top two spots in the USF order as the Bulls downed Florida Atlantic 5-3 in Gainesville, Florida. RHP Jimmy Herget tallied his 10th win of the year and RHP Tommy Peterson added his 16th save as USF moved to 34-24-1. The Bulls will face Florida Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
 
No. 23/25 East Carolina fell 6-3 to Columbia in the Pirates’ opening game of the Coral Gables Regional. RF Eric Tyler drove in two runs for ECU, which dropped to 40-21. The Pirates will clash with FIU in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
 
Tulane was defeated 10-1 by UNC Wilmington in the Green Wave’s first game of the Baton Rouge Regional. RF Lex Kaplan drove in the lone run for the Green Wave as Tulane fell to 34-24. The Green Wave will play Lehigh in an elimination game Saturday at 4 p.m. ET.
