Tulsa Advances Past UConn in #AmericanSB Quarterfinals

ORLANDO
- Pitching continues to dominate opening day of the American Athletic Conference Softball Championship, as No. 2 Tulsa and No. 7 UConn combined for five hits in the second quarterfinals matchup of the day. The Hurricane came out on top and held on for a 1-0 win over the Huskies Thursday afternoon at UCF Softball Complex. Tulsa advances to the semifinal round with the win and will face third-seeded Houston at 3 p.m. ET on Friday.

Caitlin Sill threw a complete game shutout for the Hurricane, tossing 75 pitches. The junior gave up two hits while striking out four batters. UConn freshman Chelsea Eckert tossed 91 pitches and gave up three hits and three walks in six innings of action.

The game was scoreless through 4.5 innings until Erica Sampson's sac fly plated Jodi Edmiston, which turned out to be the game-winning run.

Edmiston, Maggie Withee and Brittany Walker each had one hit apiece for the Hurricane (35-17), while Lexi Gifford and Alyson Ambler tallied one hit each for the Huskies (18-35).
