All Eight American Baseball Teams Represented Among 24 MLB Draft Picks

NEW YORK - A total of 24 players spanning all eight American Athletic Conference baseball teams were selected this week in the 2015 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
 
Cincinnati outfielder Ian Happ was taken ninth overall Monday by the Chicago Cubs, marking the highest pick in the history of both The American and the Bearcats.
 
Houston led the way with eight selections over Tuesday and Wednesday, including three in Tuesday’s rounds. Right-handed pitcher Jake Lemoine was selected in the fourth round by the Texas Rangers, the Atlanta Braves tabbed right-handed pitcher Patrick Weigel in the seventh round and outfielder Kyle Survance was chosen by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the eighth round.
 
Five more Cougars followed Wednesday, beginning with a pair of 12th round selections as first baseman Chris Iriart was chosen by the Oakland Athletics and right-handed pitcher Kyle Dowdy was picked by the Detroit Tigers. Right-handed pitcher Taylor Cobb was selected in the 26th round by the Angels, while the San Francisco Giants took outfielder Ashford Fulmer in the 28th round and the Cubs chose catcher Ian Rice in the 29th round.
 
Four USF players were chosen, as right-handed pitcher Jimmy Herget was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the sixth round Tuesday and followed by three more Bulls Wednesday. Right-handed pitcher Tommy Peterson was taken by the Washington Nationals in the 12th round, shortstop Kyle Teaf was chosen by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 30th round and right-handed pitcher Casey Mulholland was a 37th-round selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
 
UCF, UConn and East Carolina each had three players selected during the draft.
 
UCF infielder Dylan Moore was chosen by the Rangers in the seventh round Tuesday. The Reds selected a pair of Knights Wednesday, taking first baseman James Vasquez in the 25th round and right-handed pitcher Mitchell Tripp in the 36th round.
 
The Huskies had three picks over the span of two rounds, beginning with the 13th-round selection of catcher Max McDowell by the Milwaukee Brewers. A pair of Huskies followed in the 14th round, as infielder Vinny Siena was chosen by the New York Mets and right-handed pitcher Carson Cross was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals.
 
Left-handed pitcher/outfielder Reid Love was the first East Carolina player selected, as the Baltimore Orioles took Love in the 10th round. Arizona selected catcher/outfielder Luke Lowery in the 14th round, while right-handed pitcher David Lucroy went to the Brewers in the 20th round.
 
Memphis and Tulane each had one player selected in the draft. Memphis first baseman Tucker Tubbs was taken by the Boston Red Sox in the ninth round, while the Rays chose Tulane right-handed pitcher Ian Gibaut in the 11th round.
