Happ, Tubbs Named to Capital One Academic All-America Team

AUSTIN, Texas – Cincinnati outfielder Ian Happ and Memphis first baseman Tucker Tubbs were named as first-team selections to the Capital One Academic All-America Division I Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Thursday.
 
Happ - The American Player of the Year in 2015 - led The American in a multitude of offensive categories in 2015, hitting .369 with a .492 on-base percentage and .672 slugging percentage while walking 49 times (all conference bests) for a Bearcat team with the most freshmen in the nation. The Pittsburgh native hit 14 home runs - good for third in the conference - while driving in 44 runs, scoring 47 and doubling 18 times. Happ, a junior finance major, holds a 3.68 GPA.
 
Tubbs hit a conference-best 17 home runs in 2015 - five better than the conference record entering the year - and drove in a conference-high 55 runs. The Collierville, Tennessee, native was second in The American with a .601 slugging percentage and was tied for fifth with 15 doubles. Tubbs, a senior accounting major, has recorded a 3.87 GPA.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
