PROVIDENCE, R.I. – TopDrawerSoccer released its 2015 women’s college preseason Best XI on Monday Aug. 10, and UConn junior Rachel Hill earned a spot as one of three forwards on the third team.
TDS also announced its Division I top-100 preseason player rankings on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Hill placed No. 22 on the list. The Rollinsford, N.H. native was recently unanimously voted as both the American Athletic Conference Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and a member of the 11-player all-conference team by the league’s coaches. This is the second consecutive year Hill has garnered the preseason offensive player of the year award.
As UConn’s top scorer last season, Hill tallied 16 goals and three assists (35 points) which led to numerous honors including the American Athletic Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Year, and a spot on the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-Northeast Region First Team.
Three other conference players ranked among the TDS preseason top 100. Memphis defender and American Athletic Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Diamond Simpson ranked No. 89. Simpson also earned The American preseason defensive player award for the second consecutive year. In addition, UCF senior Ashley Spivey placed No. 96 on the list. Spivey was a member of the 2014 All-American Athletic Conference Second Team and was UCF’s second-leading goal (10) and point (26) scorer. Tulsa’s Rachel Thun, who was named The American Rookie of the Year and was tabbed to the all-rookie team last season, was the fourth American Athletic Conference player to be placed on the TDS preseason top 100 list, at No. 100.
