With a total of 279 points, UCF is ranked 17^th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national preseason rankings for NCAA Division I women's teams.

In 2014, UCF (18-5-0) reached the third round of the NCAA tournament before being eliminated by the eventual national champion, Florida State. The Seminoles are ranked number one in the NSCAA preseason poll, with 25 first place votes and 782 total points.

Two additional teams from The American are also receiving votes, including UConn (33 points), the 2014 American Athletic Conference champions, and USF (3 points).
