PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four American Athletic Conference Players were honored with Player of the Week accolades for the fourth week of the 2015 women's soccer season. Cincinnati midfielder Danielle Rotheram has been selected as the Offensive Player of the Week. Temple senior Erin Lafferty has been named the Defensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Kat Elliott from USF has been tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week. East Carolina freshman forward Courtney Cash has earned the Rookie of the Week honor.
Rotheram had a strong performance over the weekend, combining for nine points and assisting Cincinnati to two wins. In Friday's match against St. Francis (Pa.) she had one goal and assisted the Bearcats’ other goal, as the team beat the Red Flash, 2-0. On Sunday Rotheram notched a natural hat trick in the second half, boosting Cincinnati to a 3-2 comeback win over Duquesne. The hat trick was the 22
nd in program history, and its first since 2010.
Lafferty had five points and helped to lead a strong defensive unit for Temple, as the team only allowed one goal over the weekend. The Owls finished the weekend 2-0, outscoring their opponents 8-1. Lafferty recorded an assist in Friday’s 4-0 shutout against New Hampshire, and tallied a pair of goals for Temple in Sunday’s 4-1 victory over Binghamton.
Elliott has earned her second consecutive weekly honor of 2015, after totaling eight saves in 200:00 minutes over the weekend. The sophomore had five saves in USF’s 2-1 win over Charlotte on Friday. She also had three saves in all 110:00 minutes of play in the Bulls’ 0-0 (2OT) draw with No. 11/8 Clemson. RV/NR USF remains unbeaten this year with a record of 6-0-1, as Elliott has played all but 8:00 minutes in goal.
Cash scored her first career goal in East Carolina’s 1-0 (2OT) win against Western Carolina on Friday. The freshman netted the game-winning goal for the Pirates in the 107
th minute of the match, giving them their third win of the season.
