East Carolina (ECU) claimed the 2015 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate team title with a score of 891 Tuesday afternoon at Brook Valley Country Club. The Pirates ended its 12-year drought by winning the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate for the first time since 2002, when it claimed the last of their three-straight titles (2000-02).
“This is a course that will test your focus and patience,” said ECU Head Coach Kevin Williams. “Our seniors had solid rounds and I was really proud of the way Lisa and Catherine played. I thought we had a better tournament than we did in qualifying rounds, even with the difficult weather out here the last two days.”
East Carolina, which held a one-shot lead heading into final round action, won the event by seven strokes over Old Dominion (898) after posting an 8-over par 296. Elon (921) finished third, while William & Mary (929) and Gardner-Webb (934) rounded out the top five.
William & Mary’s Alessandra Liu took home individual medalist honors with a score of 217 (1-over) finishing three strokes ahead of ECU’s Lisa Pettersson (220) and Nicoline Engstroem Skaug (220). Maggie Simmermacher (Old Dominion) took fourth with a 220 (6-over), while Tan Cheeranont (High Point) and Taylor Dodson (Gardner-Webb) claimed a share of fifth with a 223 (7-over) to round out the all-tournament team.
Frida Gustafsson Spang posted her 14th career top 10 finish with an 8-over par 224, which was good enough for a share of seventh. Catherine Ashworth claimed a share of 14th, her first career top 15 finish, with an 11-over 227.
