Laksa and Schulte Garner Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Jan. 10.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kitija Laksa • Fr. • F • USF • Riga, Latvia
Laksa averaged 25.3 points per game and shot 26-of-50 from the field, including 17-of-27 from long range, in a 2-1 week for the Bulls. The forward highlighted the week with 38 points in an 83-56 win against SMU on Wednesday. The 38-point performance is the second-most points in a single game in USF and American Athletic Conference history. Laksa recorded eight 3-pointers, the second most in program history, and tied The American record for made field goals in a single game with 15. The native of Latvia began the week going 7-of-7 from the free throw line in a  21-point outing against UCF. Laksa capped the week with 17 points and six rebounds against the top-ranked Huskies on Sunday.   



 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Meredith Schulte • Fr. • G • Tulane • Braselton, Ga.
Schulte produced 7.5 points per game and 4.5 rebounds in a pair of conference wins for Tulane. The freshman guard scored nine points on 4-of-8 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in 19 minutes of action as the Green Wave captured a 66-51 road win against East Carolina on Tuesday. Schulte wrapped the week with six points and four rebounds in a win over UCF on Sunday.

Averaged 20 points, 8.5 rebounds and three assists in two of UConn’s three wins.

Produced 19.5 points per game, 12 rebounds and three steals in a 1-1 week for the Pirates.
 
Gabrielle Wilkins • Sr. • G • SMU • Garland, Texas
Recorded 12.7 points per game and 11 rebounds as the Mustangs went 2-1 in league play.
 
Alliya Butts • So. • G • Temple • Edgewater Park, N.J.
Averaged 18.7 points per game and 4.3 steals while shooting 40-percent as the Owls finished 2-1 on the week.  
 
Kolby Morgan • So. • G • Tulane • New Orleans, La.
Registered 19.5 points per game while connecting on 57.1-percent from the floor in a 2-0 week for Tulane.
