Williams and Samuelson Earn Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Jan. 17.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK



Courtney Williams • Sr. • G • USF • Folkston, Ga.
Williams powered USF to a 2-0 week in league play behind 26 points per game, 12 rebounds and three assists. The senior shot 43.5-percent from the field (20-of-46) and connected on 7-of-15 attempts from long range in the two games. Williams poured in 31 points on 12-of-23 shooting and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in a 71-67 road win against Tulane. The forward scored 17 of her 31 points in the final quarter to lead the Bulls past the Green Wave. The product of Folkston, Ga., finished the week with a 21-point, 11-rebound performance against East Carolina on Sunday.

Katie Lou Samuelson • Fr. • G/F • UConn • Huntington Beach, Calif.
Samuelson averaged 16.0 points, 5.5 assists and shot 63.2-percent from the field in a 2-0 week for the top-ranked Huskies. The freshman began the week with 11 points and five assists in an 86-46 win over Memphis on Wednesday. Samuelson went 4-of-7 from the field and produced two steals against the Tigers. The Huntington Beach, Calif., native highlighted the week with a 21-point, six-assist performance in a win against Temple on Saturday. Samuelson shot 66.7-percent from the floor and registered five 3-pointers in her second start of the season.

Registered 16 points per game and 14.5 rebounds, including a 21-point, 16-rebound performance against Houston.
 
Alicia Froling • So. • F • SMU • Queensland, Australia
Recorded seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds in 58-49 win over Memphis.
 
Leslie Vorpahl • Jr. • G • Tulane • San Antonio, Texas
Produced 19 points per game on 50-percent shooting, including a career-high 26 points against No. 19/16 USF.
