The American Today: Williams Hits Game-Winner to Lift No. 20/17 USF Past East Carolina

No. 20/17 USF 61, East Carolina 59
Courtney Williams knocked down a game-winning jumper with seconds remaining to lift No. 20/17 USF to a 61-59 win against East Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Williams produced a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Alisia Jenkins recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds in the Bulls conference opener. Four players for East Carolina reached double figures led by Jada Payne with 19 points. I’Tiana Taylor recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 rebounds.    
 
Cincinnati 68, UCF 50
Alyesha Lovett put together a career performance to lead Cincinnati to a victory over UCF, 68-50, at the CFE Arena on Saturday. Lovett recorded 28 points, six rebounds and four steals in the win. Jasmine Whitfield produced a double-double with 11 points and as many rebounds while Anan Owens registered 12 points and seven rebounds.  Zykira Lewis led the Knights with 12 points while Joslyn Massey pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. UCF pulled down a season-high 62 rebounds against the Bearcats.
 
Temple 75, Houston 66
Temple improved to 2-0 in conference play with a 75-66 win at Houston on Saturday afternoon. Feyonda Fitzgerald scored all 23 of her points in the second half to lead the Owls. Aliya Butts accompanied Fitzgerald with 20 points to go with five steals while Erica Covile scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds. Serithia Hawkins posted 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cougars while Mariah Mitchell added 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
Tulsa 56, SMU 54
Liesl Spoerl and Erika Wakefield combined for Tulsa’s final 15 points to carry the Golden Hurricane to a 56-54 win at the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday. Wakefield finished with 10 points, including the go-ahead jumper with 19-seconds remaining in regulation, to go with 10 assists. Spoerl scored 11 points while Kelsee Grovey produced a team-high 13 points. Alicia Froling tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds while McKenzie Adams chipped in 17 points for the Mustangs.
