Purvis, Milton Earn Men's Basketball Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for games ending Jan. 3.    

 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rodney Purvis • R-Jr. • G • UConn
Purvis averaged 18.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game in road wins at RV/RV Texas and Tulane last week. The Raleigh, N.C. native shot 56.5-percent (13-of-23) overall and 50.0-percent (6-of-12) from 3-point range and scored 20 points against the Green Wave on Saturday. He led a second half rally at Texas on Dec. 29, ending the Longhorns’ six-game winning streak.

 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Shake Milton • Fr. • G • SMU
Milton averaged 16.5 points and 3.0 assists per game last week as the 17th-ranked Mustangs moved to 2-0 in league play. The rookie scored a career-high 24 points at Tulsa on Dec. 29 and shot 55.0-percent (11-of-20) overall and 53.0-percent (8-of-15) from beyond the arc in both games.

Averaged 17.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists last week, was 8-of-17 from 3-point range; scored a game-high 17 points at SMU and had 18 against Houston

Averaged a double-double – 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds – in an undefeated week for SMU, went a perfect 7-of-7 in free-throws
