Koepfer Named Top Singles Player in the Country

SKILLMAN, N.J.  - Senior Dominik Koepfer of Tulane has been ranked as the top singles player in the nation as announced by the Oracle/ITA on Tuesday. Roberto Cid of USF accompanied Koepfer in the men’s singles rankings at No. 17, while SMU and the Green Wave each had a doubles team in the top 20. The Bulls came in at No. 15 in the men’s team rankings and were the only American team – men’s and women’s - ranked in the top 25.

The No. 1 singles ranking makes Koepfer the first Tulane player to top the rankings. The senior is coming off a fall season where he won the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, finished runner-up in the ITA All-American Championship and advanced to the semifinal round of the Oracle/Master’s tournament. Last season, Koepfer was the American Athletic Conference's automatic qualifier for the singles championships and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Cid was named the 2015 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and received all-conference singles and doubles honors. In the fall, the senior captured the ITA Southeast Regional after defeating Florida’s Diego Hidalgo in straight sets.

In men’s doubles, the tandem of Nate Lammons and Arkadijs Slobodkins of SMU are ranked No. 16, directly followed by Koepfer and Chi-Shan Jao of Tulane.

USF received the highest ranking in program’s history after advancing to the Sweet 16 of the 2015 NCAA tournament. The Bulls defeated Tulsa, 4-0, to capture the American Athletic Conference title for the second consecutive year. Tulsa (No. 29), Tulane (No. 39), Memphis (No. 45) and SMU (No. 46) round out the men’s top 50.

Houston junior Despoina Vogasari received a No. 34 ranking in women’s singles while the duo of Rongrong Leenabanchong and Martha Matoula of Tulsa ranked No. 46 in doubles. The Cougars (No. 38) and the Golden Hurricane (T-No. 47) ranked in the top 50 of the women’s team poll.
