PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball honors for the week ending Oct. 9.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Danielle Cabel • Jr. • OH • UConn
Cabel posted a career-high 16 kills in both matches against SMU and Tulsa. The junior averaged 4.57 kills per set and hit .574 in the two matches with five errors. Cabel hit .652 in the win over Tulsa with only one error against the Hurricane in 23 attempts.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mia Heirakuji • So. • L • Temple
Heirakuji led the Owls to a 2-0 weekend including a five-set win over previously undefeated SMU. The sophomore averaged 5.38 digs per set, including a career-high 25 digs against the Mustangs. Heirakuji also finished with a match-high 18 digs in a sweep against Tulsa.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Carly Nolan • So. • OH • Cincinnati
Nolan helped the Bearcats to a 2-0 weekend with 3-0 wins over East Carolina and Memphis. Nolan averaged 3.83 kills per set and 4.33 digs per set while hitting .346. Her 22 digs against East Carolina was a career-high.
Sydney Darden • Sr. • OH • East Carolina
Darden finished with double-doubles in both matches against Cincinnati and Memphis. The senior posted 20 kills and 14 digs in a five-set win over the Tigers and averaged 3.75 kills per set and 3.25 digs per set.
Clara Payne • So. • MB • USF
Payne led the Bulls in hitting percentage, blocks and blocks per set over the weekend. Against Houston the sophomore had a career-high nine blocks, added 11 kills and hit .526 in the match.
Katie Hegarty • Jr. • RS • SMU
Hegarty finished with a career-high .455 hitting percentage and 22 kills while also adding 13 digs in a win against UConn. The junior finished the week with 4.11 kills per set
Sarah Ray • Jr. • OH • Tulane
Ray led the Green Wave to a 2-0 weekend with road wins against USF and UCF. The junior finished with double-doubles in both matches posting 19 kills and 18 digs against the Bulls and 15 kills and 13 digs against the Knights.
