Women's Soccer: Weekly Honors Announced




PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s soccer honors for the week ending Oct. 16.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Stephanie Ribeiro * RS-Sr. * F * UConn
Ribeiro scored nine points, three goals and three assists, as she played a role in each of the Huskies goals scored over the weekend. She scored the game-winner in 21/16UConn's 3-1 victory over RV/24USF. She currently leads the nation in total points (41) and game-winning goals (8). She is also tied for first in total goals (15).
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Vanessa Gilles * Jr. * D * Cincinnati
Gilles anchored a defense that didn't allow a single goal in the Bearcats two matches. She blocked three shots and helped limit Houston and RV/NRSMU to five shots each.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Rachel Estopare * So. * Houston
Estopare made 21 saves and allowed only one goal in Houston draws over the weekend. She originally set a season best for saves with ten against Cincinnati but topped her best with 11 against East Carolina. 
 
Rookie of the Week
Jessica Lisi * Fr. * MF * Memphis
Lisi scored a goal and had an assist in the Tigers 4-0 victory over Tulsa. She is the second leading scorer on the team with five goals and five assists this season.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Julie Gavorski * Jr. *F * Cincinnati
Scored both goals for the Bearcats in their 2-0 victory over SMU

Emily Armstrong * Sr. * GK * UConn
Made 13 saves in two matches and recorded her third consecutive shutout against UCF

Rachel Hill * Sr. * F * UConn
Scored a goal in each of the Huskies games over the weekend and also recorded the assist on the game-winning goal agains USF.

Caroline Jeffers * RS-Fr. * GK * East Carolina
Recorded 13 saves in 200 minutes of play for the Pirates

Valerie Sanderson * Sr. * F * Memphis
Scored two goals in the Tigers 4-0 victory over Tulsa to become the program's all-time leading goal scorer
