Week Six Men's Soccer Honors Announced



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer honors for the week ending Sunday, Oct. 2.
 
Offensive Player of the Week
Adam Wilson * So. * M * Cincinnati
Wilson finished with three points last week and had a hand in both Cincinnati goals in Saturday’s 2-1 win over RV/NR USF. The sophomore scored the opening tally at the eight minute mark and assisted on the game-winning goal in the 67th minute.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Simen Olafsen * So. * B * UConn
Olafsen helped the UConn defense record back-to-back shutouts on the road last week. The Huskies opened the week with a 1-0 win over Providence on Wednesday. Olafsen led the UConn backline in a 1-0 win over Tulsa on Saturday.
 
Goalkeeper of the Week
Alex Cagle * R-Jr. * Temple
Cagle made 13 saves and recorded two shutouts in 200 minutes of action in the net last week. He opened the week with a career-high nine saves in a 1-0 win at Penn State on Tuesday and stopped four shots against Memphis on Saturday.
 
Rookie of the Week
Aerin West * Fr. * B * Cincinnati
West scored the game-winning tally for Cincinnati in the Bearcats’ 2-1 win over RV/NR USF on Saturday. The rookie notched his second goal of the season in the win.
 
Weekly Honor Roll
Matias Pyysalo * Jr. * F * UCF
Scored his fifth goal of the season, the game-winning tally, in a 1-0 win over SMU
 
Pedro Diaz * Jr. * GK * Cincinnati
Recorded his fifth shutout of the season last week, made 11 saves in two games
 
Abdou Mbacke Thiam * So. * F * UConn
Finished with three points last week, scored the game-winning goal at Providence
 
Scott Levene * R-Jr. * GK * UConn
Posted back-to-back shutouts last week, made six saves in two games
 
Jake Leeker * Jr. * GK * Memphis
Posted his fourth shutout of the season in a road game at Temple, made seven saves vs. the Owls
