Flanders, Griffin, Boumerhi Take Weekly Football Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the ninth week of the 2016 college football season.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

James Flanders • Sr. • RB • Tulsa • Midwest City, Okla.
Flanders rushed for a career-high 249 yards and tied the American Athletic Conference single-game record with five touchdowns in Tulsa’s 59-30 win at Memphis, lifting the Golden Hurricane into second place in the West Division. Flanders scored on touchdown runs of 14, 52, 1, 48 and 7 yards and has rushed for 439 yards and seven TDs in Tulsa’s last two games. Flanders’ 249 yards against Memphis ranks third on The American’s single-game chart.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Shaquem Griffin • Jr. • LB • UCF • St. Petersburg, Fla.
Griffin was responsible for two of UCF’s four takeaways in a 31-24 loss to No. 24 Houston as he helped the Knights to a 24-3 lead in the third quarter. Griffin had a game-high 14 tackles to go with 2.5 sacks, 3.0 tackles for loss, an interception and a fumble recovery. Griffin leads The American with 8.5 sacks and is third in the conference with 12.0 tackles for loss in 2016.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Aaron Boumerhi • Fr. • K • Temple • Philipsburg, Pa.
Boumerhi scored 10 points in the Owls’ 34-13 win against Cincinnati, keeping Temple atop The American’s East Division standings. He connected on field goals of 26 and 27 yards and was 4-for-4 on PATs to remain perfect since moving into the lineup (7-for-7 on field goals and 12-for-12 on PATs).

Had 19 receptions for 185 yards and a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass in a 41-3 win against  UConn; moved into second place on the NCAA career receptions list (355).
 
Anthony Miller • Jr. • WR • Memphis • Memphis, Tenn.
Had 12 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns in a 59-30 loss to Tulsa.
 
Will Worth • Sr. • QB • Navy • Valrico, Fla.
Had a school-record 428 yards of total offense and five total touchdowns in a 52-45 loss at USF.
 
Quinton Flowers • Jr. • QB • USF • Miami, Fla.
Had 395 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns in a 52-45 win against No. 24 Navy.
 
James Proche • Fr. • WR • SMU • Dallas, Texas
Had six receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-31 win at Tulane.
