PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s tennis honors for the month of October.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Ryan Peniston * Jr. * Memphis
Ryan Peniston won the American October monthly honor after winning the ITA Ohio Valley Singles Championship. The junior earned a spot in the USTA/ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in November with the win. He defeated two ranked opponents last month and finished 9-2 overall in October.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Sade Atkinson * Jr. * Tulane
Sade Atkinson claimed the American women’s monthly honor after posting a 5-1 mark in singles and going 4-1 in doubles action. Atkinson won both her singles and doubles draw at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic, completing a perfect 6-0 weekend at the University of Alabama. She also reached the round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regionals. Atkinson’s three-set win over No. 51 Natalie Suk of Ole Miss marked the first ranked victory of her career.
