American Conference/ Ben Solomon Men's Soccer 11.11.16 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Set for This Weekend Follow @American_Conf PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The top four seeds comprise the field for the 2016 American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, which gets underway Friday at Corbett Stadium on the campus of USF. Both games will air live on The American Digital Network (www.youtube.com/americanathleticconf) at 4:30 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. ET. Third-seeded UConn (11-6-1 overall, 3-3-1) will meet No. 2 Tulsa (9-4-4, 4-2-1) in Friday’s opening semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Hurricane defeated Memphis, 2-0, on Nov. 4 to advance to the semifinals, while the Huskies tied SMU, 1-1 in double overtime last Saturday to earn a trip to the semifinal round. UConn won the only meeting between the two teams in 2016, topping the Hurricane 1-0 in Storrs, Conn. on Oct. 1. The Huskies have won seven conference tournament titles, the last coming in 2007. Tulsa has won nine conference championships, including the last two American titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament nine times under head coach Tom McIntosh. The second semifinal game on Friday finds fourth-seeded UCF (5-10-0 overall, 3-4-0) facing host and top-seeded USF (9-6-2, 6-1-0) at 7 p.m. ET. The Knights defeated Cincinnati, 1-0, last Saturday to clinch a spot in the conference semifinals. Nine different players have accounted for UCF’s 20 goals this season while 10 players have posted assists for the Knights. The Bulls are 6-2-2 in home games this season and 14-3-3 in postseason home games under head coach George Kiefer. USF has made eight NCAA Tournament appearances in the last nine seasons and is receiving votes in the latest NSCAA rankings. The Bulls won the only matchup between the two teams this season, a 3-1 victory in Tampa, Fla. on Oct. 21. Friday’s winners will play for the championship on Sunday at Noon ET. Sunday’s championship match will air live on ESPN3 and tape delayed at 4 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
