PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors following the opening weekend of the 2016-17 men’s basketball season.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Semi Ojeleye • Jr. • F • SMU • Ottawa, Kan.
Ojeleye made his SMU debut on Friday night, recording 26 points and 14 rebounds in the Mustangs’ 72-44 victory over Gardner-Webb in the regional round of the 2k Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project. Ojeleye was returning to the court for the first since Nov. 30, 2014. On Sunday, Ojeleye followed up with 18 points and eight rebounds as SMU rolled past Eastern Michigan 91-64. In his first two games, the forward averaged 22 points and 11 rebounds.

Making his collegiate debut, Rose came off the bench to score 12 points in helping Temple past Big 5 rival La Salle, 97-92, in overtime on Friday night. The freshman finished 5-of-8 from the floor, including consecutive baskets late in regulation that pushed the Owls’ lead to nine.

Recorded his third-career double-double with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and a career-high 16 rebounds to lead USF to an 84-73 win over Florida A&M.
Obi Enechionyia • Jr. • F • Temple • Springfield, Va.
Helped lead Temple to a 97-92 overtime win against La Salle with 20 points, a career-high 14 rebounds and four blocks.
