Week One Women's Basketball Honors Announced



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball honors for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 13.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kristen Gaffney • Gr. • F • East Carolina
Gaffney averaged 27.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game while shooting 24-for-35 (.686) from the field in a 2-0 week for the Pirates. The Cary, N.C., native opened the week with 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting in a win over Greensboro College on Friday. She scored a career-high 32 points on 15-for-23 shooting with eight boards in Sunday’s 83-81 (OT) win over Detroit-Mercy. Gaffney scored six of ECU's 13 points in overtime while making all three of her shot attempts.
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Kendrian Elliott • Fr. • F • Tulsa
Elliott scored 11 points and started her first collegiate game Friday in the Hurricane’s 80-70 win at UMKC. It was the first season-opening win for Tulsa since the 2009-10 campaign. Elliott pulled down four rebounds and added a block on the defensive end in 17 minutes of action while shooting 57.1-percent from the field and 75.0-percent from the charity stripe.

Led Temple with 24 points in an 86-70 win over crosstown rival Saint Joseph’s, had seven rebounds in the win

Scored a career-high 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the field in a 79-56 win over Grambling
