Ferguson, Martin-Oguike, Jones Take Final Weekly Football Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly football honors for the final week of the 2016 college football regular season.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Riley Ferguson • Jr. • QB • Memphis • Matthews, N.C.
Ferguson engineered Memphis’ 48-44 win against No. 18/21 Houston as he completed 30 of 45 passes for a career-high 409 yards and four touchdowns without an interception against a Cougar unit that ranked 10th nationally in total defense and 18th in scoring defense. Ferguson’s yardage total ranks as the fourth-highest in Memphis’ history, while he improved his season totals to 3,326 yards and a league-leading 28 touchdowns.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Praise Martin-Oguike • Sr. • DE • Temple • Woodbridge, N.J.
Martin-Oguike keyed a defensive performance that limited East Carolina, which ranked 22nd nationally in total offense, to a season-low 225 yards in the Owls’ 37-10 win, clinching The American’s East Division title for the second straight year. Martin-Oguike registered five tackles, including 2.0 sacks, with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Martin-Oguike enters The American Athletic Conference Championship with 7.0 sacks in 2016, good for fourth in the conference.

Jones scored 10 points, including two crucial fourth-quarter field goals, in Tulsa’s 40-37 overtime win against Cincinnati as the Golden Hurricane overcame a 10-point deficit in the final 15 minutes. Jones hit a 24-yard field goal early in the fourth period to bring Tulsa within seven, and he hit a 22-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to force overtime. Jones is the leading scorer among American Athletic Conference kickers with 117 points in 2016.
