The American Partners With Extra Yard For Teachers

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The United States Naval Academy and Temple University will be vying for the American Athletic Conference football championship title on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, but teachers and students in the surrounding Annapolis and Philadelphia communities will be the beneficiaries of their on-field successes in 2016.

The College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation is partnering with The American and donating $100,000 to be split between the Annapolis and Philadelphia areas to fund school initiatives through the DonorsChoose.org platform. During Saturday’s contest, there will be an on-field presentation to celebrate and honor the educators in those two American Athletic Conference communities for their hard work and dedication.

The funds provided by the CFP Foundation will help finance a combined 154 projects. As a result, those projects will support the work of 91 schools, 134 teachers and 26,294 students in the Philadelphia and Annapolis communities.

For the second consecutive year, schools from The American took part in the College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation’s highly impactful Extra Yard for Teachers (EYFT) Week in the month of September in which college football programs are encouraged to celebrate teachers across the country. The mission of EYFT is aimed at helping to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering quality teachers. One of its primary goals is to promote a culture of learning nationwide, especially in under-served areas and in under-resourced schools.

“I am very proud of our partnership and association with the College Football Playoff Foundation in support of education,” said American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco. “In providing vital additional educational resources to the teachers of the Annapolis and Philadelphia communities, this funding will have a lasting impact.”

“The College Football Playoff Foundation is thrilled to join the American Athletic Conference in supporting teachers in the communities of Philadelphia and Annapolis. We look forward to seeing the lasting impact these funds will have on these teachers and students, and it is our hope that this encourages others to remember that teachers are truly heroes,” said CFP Foundation Executive Director Britton Banowsky.
