Highlights
- Cincinnati began its season at the Hoosier Open at Indiana University. The Bearcats finished with three first place finishes, 22 personal bests and a school record. Annette Echikunwoke threw a school record and earned a first place finish of 21.76m in the weight throw. On the men’s team, Halen Witcher won the 400m dash in a personal best 49.04 and Adrian Valles won the pole vault clearing the 5.15m mark.
- Houston won five events at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational and Brian Barraza set a school record. Barraza ran the first under-four minute mile in the NCAA this season, running 5:58.66, which broke the previous record of 3:59.64 set by Olympian Leonard Hilton in 1971. Amere Lattin set the nation’s fastest time with a personal best 7.85 in the 60-meter hurdle, Cameron Cornelius threw a 57-7.0 to win the shot put and Cameron Burrell won the long jump with a 24-7.0 mark. On the women’s side, freshman Samiyah Samuels won the long jump in her college debut with a leap of 19-5.5
- Temple earned five first place finishes at the Seahawk Shootout on Saturday. In the first event of the day for the Owls, senior Jimmia McCluskey won the 60 meter dash in 7.84. Freshman Millie Howard took home the next first place finish with a personal best of 4:55.30 in the 1600. Senior Kenya Gaston won the 300 meter race, running a 40:32 and freshman Jazmyne Williams won the 600 meter race in 1:38.39. The Owlz also won the 4x400 meter relay finishing in 3:59.24.
- Tulsa opened its season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational and took home two event titles on the men’s side and one on the women’s. Grey Howard won the 600-yard run in 1:12.90, the fifth fastest time in Tulsa history, and Aleks Rapp won the weight throw in 64-07.75. Emma Galbraith also won the 600-yard run for the women, finishing in 1:24.88. Tulsa’s Marc Scott ran won the 5,000-meter run at the Hoosier Open, setting a meet record with a time of 13:38.87.
