PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s first weekly indoor track and field honors of the 2016-17 season, for the week ending Dec. 11.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brian Barraza • Sr. • Houston • El Paso, Texas
Barraza was named Male Track Athlete of the Week after winning the mile race at the Reveille Invitational in College Station, Texas. Barraza became the first runner of the season to run a sub-four minute mile with a time of 3:58.66. The senior broke a 45-year old school record previously held by Olympian Leonard Hilton in 1971. Barraza was also named an Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for his performance.

Williams has been named Female Track Athlete of the Week after her fourth place finish at the Reveille Invitational in the 200m. The senior’s time of 24.19 ranks her seventh in the NCAA this season.

Burrell has been named Male Field Athlete of the Week after taking home the top mark at the Reveille Invitational in the long jump with a mark of 7.49m. Burrell, who won the long jump in the American Indoor Track and Field Championships last year, has the fourth longest jump in the NCAA this season.

Greenlee has been named Co-Female Field Athlete of the Week after winning the triple jump at the Vanderbilt Opener in Nashville, Tenn., with a mark of 12.54m. The senior holds the fifth longest triple jump in the NCAA this season and won her seventh career indoor triple jump title with the leap. For the first time in her career, Greenlee finished in the top-10 in both the triple and long jumps in the same event also adding a seventh place finish in the long jump.

Annette Echikunwoke • Jr. • Cincinnati • Pickerington, Ohio
Chikunwoke has been named Co-Female Field Athlete of the Week after picking up a win in the weight throw and a second place finish in the shot put at the Hoosier Open in Bloomington, Ind. The junior’s throw of 21.76m is tops in the nation by 1.03m after two weeks of competition and her shot put throw of 15.63m is seventh overall. Echihkunwoke also broke the Cincinnati record for the weight throw twice in the Hoosier Open.
