Three players from The American were named to the 2016 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division I Women's Scholar Teams. UConn's Emily Armstrong and Memphis' Valerie Sanderson were named to the NSCAA Scholar All-American second team. Memphis' Maryse Bard-Martel was named to the All-South region first team.
Armstrong was also named to the All-East region first team. She posted a 3.88 GPA as an Elementary Education major. This is her second academic honor she has won this season as she was named to the 2016 CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)..
Memphis had two named to the All-South region teams. Bard-Martel was named the goalkeeper for the first team. She recorded a 3.53 GPA as the senior is a Health and Human Performance major. Sanderson was named to the All-South second team. The senior forward recorded a 3.30 GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major.
