12 Plays of Christmas: East Carolina Walk Off

Editor's Note: Heading into the Holiday Season and the end of 2016 we thought it would be nice to look back at some of the best plays from the past year. We scoured through lots of video footage and came up with our "12 Plays of Christmas". Every day we will reveal a new play that we consider to be one of our best from the year. The list will end on Christmas Day.

Day Nine - East Carolina Walk Off

One of the top moments in 2016 came when East Carolina catcher Travis Watkins launched a three-run walk-off home run to propel the Pirates past Virginia, 8-6, in the Charlottesville Regional.

East Carolina proceeded to defeat William & Mary in the regional finals and advance to the Super Regional for just the fourth time in the program’s history. The Pirates dropped two out of three games to Texas Tech and finished the year with a 38-23-1 record.

This season, East Carolina was chosen as the preseason favorite to win The American as the Pirates received six out of the eight first place votes.
