East Carolina’s Spang Earns American Women’s Golf Player of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – East Carolina senior Frida Gustaffson Spang was named the American Women's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after winning the individual title at the UCF Challenge.
 
Spang recorded her fourth career individual title with the victory at Eagle Creek Golf Club on Tuesday. The senior, who entered the final round tied for first with Missouri's Michelle Butler, notched three birdies in her first seven holes to take a five-shot lead. Spang finished 3-under 213 (73-68-72) en route to her lowest 54-hole total of the season. During the three-day event, Spang posted 10 birdies and 37 pars both to rank among the tournament leaders.

    • The Knights finished 10th at the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club Feb. 7-9…Junior Ashley Holder was UCF’s top individual finishing tied for 11th with a 221 (73-73-75).
    • UCF will compete in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-23.
 
  • East Carolina
    • The Pirates notched a fifth-place finish at the UCF Challenge Feb. 7-9 in Orlando…Senior Frida Gustaffson Spang won the individual title after carding a final round even-par 72.
    • East Carolina returns to action on Feb. 29 at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami.
 
  • Houston
    • The Cougars won the UCF Challenge on Feb. 9 at Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando; it was their second team title in program history…Raegan Bremer, who finished sixth overall, led Houston with four birdies in the final round.
    • Houston next competes in the UNF Collegiate on March 7-8 in Jacksonville, Fla.
 
  • USF
    • Maria Rodriguez tied for the tournament lead with 10 birdies during action at the UCF Challenge…The junior carded a 2-under 70 to help the Bulls tie an 18-hole program record 287 in the second round.
    • USF returns to action at the Hurricane Invitational Feb. 29-Mar. 2 in Miami.
 
  • Tulane
    • The Green Wave posted a runner-up finish at the UCF Challenge Feb. 9 in Orlando…Senior Emily Pentilla finished third overall and completed the event with a 1-over 217 to tie her highest finish of the season.
    • Tulane will next host the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Feb. 21-23 at the English Turn Golf & Country Club.
