PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s weekly tennis honors for the week ending Feb. 14.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Carlos Bautista • Sr. • Tulsa • Ciudad Real, Spain
Bautista earned a pair of wins to help lift No. 31 Tulsa past No. 64 Arkansas, 6-1, on Friday evening at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The senior, who is ranked No. 94 in singles and No. 52 in doubles, teamed with Juan Matias to earn a 7-5 win in second flight doubles. Bautista gave the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 match advantage after defeating Giammarco Micolani, 6-3, 6-2, in second flight singles.

Sharapova went 3-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles in victories against No. 36 Oklahoma, Northwestern State and Nevada. The native of Belarus clinched the Mustangs’ upset of the Sooners, 4-3, with a win in fourth flight singles, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Earlier in the match, Sharapova produced a 7-5 victory in No. 2 doubles to claim the doubles point for SMU. On Monday, the junior earned a 6-0 win in doubles and a 6-1, 6-3, singles win against the Demons. Sharapova battled back to earn 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, win in No. 3 singles against the Wolfpack on Sunday.
