Houston's pitching staff was the story in the Cougars' 4-0 win against Villanova as starter John King and reliever Aaron Fletcher combined for a one-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. King worked six innings with nine Ks, while Fletcher threw three innings of hitless relief for the save. Leftfielder Corey Julks hit his first home run of the season as the Cougars improved to 2-0.
Tulane pitcher Alex Massey was outstanding to help the Green Wave to a 3-0 win against Illinois. Massey scattered four hits and struck out eight in seven innings to get his first win of the season, while rightfielder Lex Kaplan provided all of the offense Tulane would need with a two-run single in the first inning. The Green Wave is off to a 2-0 start.
UCF, which rallied from a four-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth in Friday's season-opener, had an easier time of it Saturday as the Knights cruised to a 15-0 win against Siena. Freshman Matthew Mika homered for the second straight game and was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while five UCF pitchers combined for the whitewash. The Knights improved to 2-0.
East Carolina improved to 2-0 as the Pirates were 9-6 winners against Longwood at Clark-LeClair Stadium. Freshman Dwanya Williams-Sutton led the way with a 3-for-5, two-RBI afternoon, while pitcher Jacob Wolfe scattered three hits and struck out seven in six shutout innings to get the win.
Memphis picked up its first win of the season as the Tigers built an 11-0 lead into the sixth inning on their way to a 13-8 victory against Tennessee at AT&T Stadium in Chattanooga. Catcher Corey Chafin went 4-for-5 with two RBIs, while centerfielder Darien Tubbs continued his hot start with a 2-for-5 day with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
USF was unable to ride the momentum from its walk-off win of Friday as the Bulls dropped a 4-0 decision to Liberty in Tampa. USF pitchers limited the Flames to three hits, but the Bulls issued 10 walks to suffer their first loss of the season (1-1).
Cincinnati fell to 0-2 after the Bearcat bats were held in check in a 4-0 setbacl to No. 5 LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Cincinnati managed four hits - all singles - off of Tiger pitching.
UConn dropped its second straight one-run game to Texas San Antonio as the Roadrunners scored the winning run with out in the bottom of the ninth to take a 6-5 victory. Designated hitter Tyler Gnesda and second-baseman Aaron Hill had two RBIs each for the Huskies (0-2).
