Koepfer and Saarteinen Garner Weekly Tennis Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s weekly tennis honors for the week ending Feb. 21.
        
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Koepfer was a perfect 4-0 this week as the Green Wave went 1-1 against top-35 teams. The No. 1 singles player in the country defeated two-ranked opponents in singles play. Koepfer took down No. 41 Mate Curtura of No. 26 Mississippi State, 6-0, 6-2, on Saturday. He followed with a 6-1, 6-1, win against No. 44 Bayo Phillips of No. 35 Drake on Sunday, which helped No. 27 Tulane earn a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs. In doubles action, the senior earned a pair of 6-4 wins. Koepfer has yet to lose a single set this spring season.  
 
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE FEMALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Saana Saarteinen • Sr. • Tulsa • Tampere, Finland
Saarteinen earned wins in first flight singles and third flight doubles to guide No. 34 Tulsa to a 6-1 win against league-opponent UCF on Sunday. The senior teamed with Mahitha Dadireddy to earn a 6-4 victory and help the Golden Hurricane secure the doubles point. In singles, Saarteinen bested the Knights’ Sofia Baptista, 6-2, 6-1, as Tulsa claimed five out of the six singles matches en route to the win.
