The American Today: Knights' Series With No. 1 Florida Headlines Midweek Slate

A busy week in The American gets started with three conference teams on the road Tuesday and four away from home in Wednesday’s midweek action.

UCF plays the first game of a home-and-home series with top-ranked Florida. Tuesday’s game will be in Orlando, while the teams head to Gainesville for Wednesday’s rematch. East Carolina looks to take the momentum from a series win on the road against last year’s NCAA champion back to Greenville as the Pirates host Elon Wednesday. East Carolina is ranked No. 25 in most of the national polls this week following its pair of wins against Virginia.

Memphis, which won three straight in its first homestand of the season, looks to take that success on the road as the Tigers visit No. 13 Mississippi Wednesday. It will be the first of eight straight games away from home for Memphis.

USF plays on the road for the first time in 2016 as the Bulls visit Bethune-Cookman Tuesday. USF has won its first two weekend series of the year, but the Bulls look for their first midweek victory.

Houston looks to bounce back from a three-game slide when the Cougars return to Schroeder Park to host Texas-San Antonio. The Cougars averaged 10.3  runs in their first four games, but managed 2.0 runs per game in their last three.

Tulane makes the one-hour road trip to Hammond to face Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday. The Green Wave looks to bounce back after dropping its last two games in the Tony Gwynn Classic in San Diego.

Cincinnati is in search of its first win of the season as the Bearcats visit Tennessee Wednesday. Cincinnati has seen three games decided by one run thus far, while the young Bearcats have dropped a pair of extra-inning decisions.
