UConn Sweeps Final Women’s Basketball Weekly Honors



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s final weekly women’s basketball honors for the 2015-16 season.

Stewart averaged 20.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.7 blocks per game in a 3-0 week for No. 1 UConn, which included clinching its third straight American Athletic Conference regular-season title and eighth undefeated regular season. The North Syracuse, N.Y., native shot 51.1-percent from the floor and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the three wins. Stewart started the week with 14 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three assists in 23 minutes of play in win over SMU on Wednesday. The senior forward followed with a 20-point, 12-rebound effort in Saturday’s senior day victory over Tulane. Stewart concluded the regular season with a game-high 27 points on 13-of-25 shooting from the field to go along with 13 rebounds, four blocks and three assists in a Big Monday win over No. 20 USF.

Samuelson recorded 17.0 points per game while shooting 57.6-percent from the floor in a 3-0 week for the top-ranked Huskies. The freshman scored a season-high tying 21 points twice during the perfect week for UConn. Samuelson began the week with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-10 from long-range, to go along with five rebounds against SMU. In a win against Tulane over the weekend, she posted another 21-point, five-rebound effort. Samuelson connected on six 3-pointers against the Green Wave. The product of Huntington Beach, Calif., wrapped the week with nine points and three assists in a win against No. 20 USF on Big Monday.

Produced three-straight 20-plus point games in a 2-1 week for the Pirates. She averaged 24.3 points on 50.8-percent to go with 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
 
Asianna Fuqua-Bey • Sr. • F • Memphis • Chicago, Ill.
Recorded a pair of 20-point contests, including a 22-point, 11-rebound effort against Houston. Shot 63.0-percent from the floor and grabbed 9.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Tigers.   
 
Courtney Williams • Sr. • G • USF • Folkston, Ga.
Averaged 22.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists in three league games for the Bulls. Scored 33 points on 51.9-percent shooting from the floor in a road win against Tulsa.
 
Tanaya Atkinson • So. • G • Temple • New Haven, Conn.
Led the Owls in scoring and rebounding in the final three games of the regular season, averaging 14.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game.
 
Ashley Clark • Sr. • G • Tulsa • Midwest City, Okla.
Averaged 26.5 points while connecting on 54.8-percent from the floor to go with 8.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Hurricane.
