USF’s Koepka Named American Men’s Golf Player of the Week



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – USF senior Chase Koepka was named the American Men's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after winning the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular and leading the Bulls to the team title.
 
Koepka collected his fourth career tournament win by going 9-under 207, five shots ahead of second place finishers Rigel Fernandes and Ryan Cornfield of USC Upstate. The senior made eight birdies and an eagle while shooting under par all three rounds. He posted his second straight top-five finish with the win. As a team, the Bulls won the event by 21 strokes.

  • East Carolina
    • Wes Conover led the Pirates during the General Hackler Championship Mar. 12-13 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina…East Carolina finished 10th overall with a three round total of 881.
    • The Pirates are off for three weeks and return to action Apr. 4-5 hosting the East Carolina Collegiate.
 
  • Houston
    • Houston took second at the rain-shortened Border Olympics on Mar. 12 in Laredo, Texas…Michael Perras finished as the runner up (7-under 137) and was one of three Cougars to finish in the top-10.
    • Houston next hosts the Valspar Collegiate Invitational on Mar. 21-22 at the Floridian Golf Club.
 
  • USF
    • USF won for the second time in three tournaments this spring with its first-place finish (15-under 849) at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular…A pair of Bulls (Koepka, Fernandes) finished top-two individually.
    • USF returns to the links Mar. 21-22 at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational in Palm City, Fla.
 
  • SMU
    • Two Mustangs (Austin Smotherman, Ryan Burgess) finished among the top-30 finishers during action at the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Mar. 7-9 in Las Vegas…SMU tied No. 1 Illinois for eighth place in team standings.
    • The Mustangs will be in action next at The Goodwin on Mar. 24 in Palo Alto, California.
