Tulane Picks Up First Round WNIT Against Alabama, 53-52



POST-SEASON CENTRAL

NEW ORLEANS – Sophomore guard Kolby Morgan scored 19 points, including the tying and go-ahead free throws with 18 seconds remaining, as Tulane edged Alabama 53-52 in Round One of the Postseason WNIT. The Green Wave will face the winner of Mercer at Georgia Tech, which is set to tip Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Morgan went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line and recorded a game-high five steals in the win. Junior guard Leslie Vorpahl chipped in with six points and seven assists while classmate Courtnie Latham scored eight points. Senior center Chinwe Duru added six points, four rebounds and three blocks for the Green Wave.

Quantria Bolton scored a team-high 12 points for Alabama coming off the bench. Karyla Middlebrooks finished with 11 points hitting all three of her three-point attempts. Hannah Cook also chipped in 11 and pulled down six boards.

Tulane led 38-31 heading into the fourth quarter, but Alabama fought its way back with a chance to win the game late. Following the two made free throws from Morgan, the Green Wave defense forced a missed jump shot by Middlebrooks to seal the win for the Green Wave. The Tulane defense and performance at the charity stripe fueled the win as the Green Wave forced 21 Alabama turnovers and connected on 14-of-15 free throw attempts.
