Memphis Falls Short Against UT Martin in WNIT First Round

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis’ comeback bid fell short against UT Martin, 79-73, in Round One of the Postseason WNIT on Thursday evening at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
 
The Tigers erased a 20-point first half deficit to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter following a layup from Brianna Wright, 58-57. The Skyhawks regained the lead on the next possession, which they would maintain for the remainder of the contest.  
 
Memphis (18-13) was led by Asianna Fuqua-Bey, who produced 19 points and 13 rebounds for her 10th career double-double. Wright and Ariel Hearn each contributed 17 points. Hearn added eight rebounds and four assists, as well.  
 
Katie Schubert scored 19 points and added seven rebounds for UT Martin (22-9), who will play at Western Kentucky in Round Two. Haley Howard also added 16 points for the Skyhawks. 
 
Memphis concluded the 2015-16 season with an 18-13 overall record.
