Butts Powers Temple Past Drexel in First Round of WNIT

PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore guard Alliya Butts scored 24 points, including five 3-pointers, to power Temple to a 74-66 win over Drexel in the first round of the 2016 WNIT. The Owls are scheduled to play at Quinnipiac on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET in the second round.
 
Butts went 7-of-10 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line (5-of-5) in the win. Feyonda Fitzgerald recorded 19 points and handed out four assists while guard Erica Covile produced a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Drexel (19-14) was paced by Sarah Curran, who ended with 24 points. Jessica Pellechio added 11 points while Alexis Smith contributed 10 points and five rebounds off the bench.
 
Temple (21-11) shot 50-percent from the floor, held a 41-29 advantage in the rebounding column and outscored Drexel in the paint (30-16).
