USF’s Aksel Olsen Tabbed American Men’s Golf Player of the Week



PROVIDENCE, R.I. – USF senior Aksel Olsen was named the American Men's Golf Player of the Week on Wednesday after winning the Querencia Cabo Collegiate, his first title as a Bull.
 
At 9-under 204 (68-67-69), Olsen won his first event as a Bull by one shot after going under par all three days at the Querencia Golf Club (par-71, 6,928 yards) in Los Cabos, Mexico. He matched his career best with a 67 in the second round and collected 14 birdies during the three-day event. Olsen helped USF to a runner-up finish as the Bulls defeated 10 nationally ranked opponents, including five in GolfStat’s Top 15.

  • UCF
    • Manual Elvira led the way for UCF for the second consecutive event, this time at The Hayt, on Feb. 26-28…The Knights finished 15th overall and improved its score in the second and third rounds.
    • UCF is off for nearly a month before returning to action on March 25 at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite.
 
  • UConn
    • Zach Zaback led UConn to a fifth-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate during season opening action on March 1…The senior tied for fourth overall with a 9-under 207 (65-73-69).
    • UConn returns to action at the Colleton River Collegiate on March 7-8.
 
  • East Carolina
    • Tim Conover and Jacob Hicks helped lead East Carolina to a fifth-place finish at The Hayt at Sawgrass Country Club…The duo finished tied for 12th overall at 4-over 220.
    • The Pirates next take the course on March 7-8 at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
 
  • Houston
    • Logan Davis led the Cougars to their fifth championship of the season as Houston won the Colin Montgomerie Invitational on March 1…Davis finished 5-under 211 and shot a career-low 66 in the final round.
    • Houston will play host to the Border Olympics on March 11-12 at Laredo Country Club.
 
  • USF
    • Aksel Olsen helped lead USF to a second-place finish at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate on Feb. 28-Mar. 1…The Bulls had the first-round lead and finished 8-under 844 (274-283-287).
    • USF returns to the course on March 12 at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular.   
 
  • Tulsa
    • Tulsa freshmen were the Top-4 finishers for the Hurricane during action at The Hayt in Ponte Vedra, Fla…Tulsa finished 12th overall as a team and jumped two spots in the final round.
    • The Hurricane will be in action next at the Auburn Tiger Invitational on March 6-8.
