A busy week in The American has league teams in action every day before the start of conference play next week.
Cincinnati got things started Monday as the Bearcats extended their winning streak to eight games — the longest by an American Athletic Conference team this season — with a 10-3 win against Northwestern. Cincinnati, which has seen 3B Connor McVey string together a 16-game hitting streak, resumes play Thursday, beginning a three-game series with Xavier.
Houston carries a five-game winning streak into the week after a series sweep of Grand Canyon. The Cougars allowed only two runs in the three games against the Antelopes as P Andrew Lantrip and P Seth Romero went the distance without allowing an earned run in their respective starts. Houston hosts Rice Tuesday in midweek action.
Tulane scored its fourth straight series win as the Green Wave took two of three from Texas last weekend. Tulane faces Southern Miss Tuesday in Biloxi, Mississippi, as the Green Wave faces its former Metro Conference and Conference USA rival.
East Carolina won the first two games of its series with Monmouth last weekend, but the Pirates were on the wrong end of a one-hit shutout in the series finale. The Pirates head to Duke Tuesday in search of their 14th straight win against the Blue Devils.
USF won back-to-back games against No. 25 Michigan State to take its first series victory against a ranked opponent since 2013. The Bulls take to the road Tuesday for a midweek game at Florida Gulf Coast.
UCF enjoyed its second straight series win as the Knights took two of three from Brown. UCF heads to Tallahassee Tuesday and Wednesday for a two-game midweek series against No. 10 Florida State.
Memphis has won three of its last four after the Tigers closed their series against Eastern Illinois with back-to-back wins, including a 23-0 victory in the deciding game. It was the most lopsided victory for Memphis since a 24-1 win against UT Martin in 2003. The Tigers visit Murray State Tuesday.
UConn looks to bounce back from a series sweep at the hands of No. 21 UC Santa Barbara as the Huskies host Central Connecticut Wednesday. UConn will play at home for the second time in 19 games this season.
