PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s men’s and women’s weekly tennis honors for the week ending March 20.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE MALE TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dominik Koepfer • Sr. • Tulane • Furtwangen, Germany
Koepfer went undefeated at No. 1 singles and doubles as he guided the Green Wave to the title match of the San Diego Spring Classic. No. 28 Tulane defeated No. 46 Denver and No. 34 San Diego before falling to No. 8 Texas Tech, 4-3, in the championship. The senior picked up two ranked singles wins against top-30 opponents, earning victories against No. 26 Uros Petronijevic and No. 22 Felipe Soares. In doubles action, Koepfer and junior Chi-Shan Jao, the No. 33-ranked doubles pair, went 2-0 in the tournament and knocked off the No.1-ranked doubles team in the nation in Hugo Dojas and Soares.

Chaves posted a 4-0 record at No. 1 singles and went 3-1 in No. 2 doubles in a four-win week for the Bulls. The native of Mexico contributed a singles and doubles win in a 6-1 upset of No. 41 Columbia on Friday. Chaves capped the week with a three-set comeback win in singles against Middle Tennessee State to clinch the eighth consecutive win for USF.
